A knockout drum should be provided on the fuel gas supply to each
heater (or group of heaters when located close to each other) to keep
condensate out of the heaters. A slug of fuel gas condensate entering a
gas-fired heater can extinguish the flame and flood the floor of the
firebox and upon reignition cause serious fire damage of the heater
and/or adjacent equipment.
